Known for Acting
Lombardi attended Fordham University where he played and began his coaching career as a student assistant from 2009 to 2010, earning his bachelor's degree in communications in 2011. He entered the NFL that same year as a scouting assistant with the New England Patriots, where he was part of the organization that reached Super Bowl XLVI. In 2013, Lombardi joined the San Francisco 49ers as assistant to head coach Jim Harbaugh, marking the start of a four-year tenure with the organization where he served in multiple capacities including offensive assistant, defensive assistant, and offensive quality control coach under three different head coaches. His time with the 49ers proved personally significant—head coach Bill Belichick allowed him to leave New England because Lombardi wanted to marry Michelle Ancelj, whom he had met at Fordham while she played soccer and later moved back to the Bay Area. After stints with the New York Jets (2017-2018) as offensive assistant and assistant quarterbacks coach, Lombardi returned to New England where he served as assistant quarterbacks coach in 2019, working with Tom Brady during his final season with the Patriots. Lombardi was promoted to wide receivers coach in 2020-2021, leading a unit that caught 647 of 944 targets for a 68.5 percent reception rate that ranked tenth in the NFL during that span. February 25, 2022, brought Lombardi his first offensive coordinator position when the Las Vegas Raiders hired him under head coach Josh McDaniels. In his inaugural season as coordinator, Lombardi's offense ranked twelfth in total offense and produced the first 1,500-yard rusher and 1,500-yard receiver combination since the 1999 Colts, with Josh Jacobs leading the NFL in rushing yards (1,653) and Davante Adams recording 1,516 receiving yards. However, Lombardi was fired alongside McDaniels on October 31, 2023. Lombardi returned to the 49ers in March 2024 as senior offensive assistant and was promoted to quarterbacks coach on February 25, 2025, replacing Brian Griese. He and his wife Michelle have two sons, Dominic and Michael, and a daughter, Sienna.
